Hi everyone!
I am making an educational film to fight the stigma of mental illness. My ultimate intent is to post is online for free when its finished and have highschool health classes and other organizations show it.
It will be split up into sections of different conditions (ocd, depression, bipolar, etc.) and than further divided into different parts:
1-Most recent research about condition.
2-A medical professional's thorough description. I find most information in generic and is lacking, so I want to cover things like differences between cases, uncommon examples, and anything else.
3-Personal experiences from people who experience it. Normal cases, odd, and extreme cases to basically give a broader understanding.
4-Stories and tips from Successful people with it on how they have coped with it. I know it's wishful thinking but here's an example list of celebrities http://www.mentalhealthadvocacyinc.org/role-models . It would be nice to get a couple highly successful people from that list but we will see how it goes.
There is more details I would like to include but that it the idea behind it.
I would love to have it done quickly, but realistically I will have to make appointments, schedule travel time, accumulate resources, and whatever other speed bumps appear.
So why do I want to do this?
I have had mental health issues my whole life, but instead of getting help (because I didn't know any better as a kid, and lack of an "understanding family") I went on being subtly treated like a second class human because of my "quarks".
As I got older symptoms got worse and basically everything in my life has crumbled. Luckily I have been diagnosed and I have had a direction to go in understanding things. That's helped me in understanding what works with me and my problems, but unfortunately the outside world is still as viscous as ever if not worse.
My point is is that I NEED to make this. For me and everyone like me. I am so tired of being treated like I'm worthless or like a piece of crap. The few people that were "close" to me who I've told basically ostracized me, or just vanished. Those who don't know see my little "quarks" and treat me like I am below them.
Let's face it, A LOT of people are just crappy people. Their judgmental, their jerks to whoever, for some reason try to play stupid games with people, they compulsively gossip... the list goes on. We probably wont reach those people either way, and we certainly cant fix them. This film is for the people who simply don't understand but can.
So there's my pitch... I know there are plenty of you out there who feel the same way I do so I hope we can make this possible.
How we can work together:
You can donate at crowdrise here
https://www.crowdrise.com/stigmacide-a-film-to-fight-stigma/fundraiser/ryanmost
but I would much rather you go to my teespring store and wear a shirt that supports us but either way is fine. https://teespring.com/stores/educationing-store
https://www.facebook.com/Stigmacide-1802828966623252/
That is the facebook page for the project it is the main rendezvous point for any contact, info, casting calls, updates just anything. Just bare with me a little I gave up social media long ago because it was a source of great anxiety and complication so I am a bit out of the loop.
Thanks! I look forward to working with you
